Frequency vs. Recency: Two Ways to Read Past Draws

What “how often” and “how long ago” really describe, and what they can never tell you.

Most lottery charts, including the ones in Apollo AI, are built on two measures: frequency and recency. Here's what each one tells you, in plain words.

Frequency: how often

Frequency is a simple count. Over the last 200 draws, how many times did the number 12 come up? Numbers with high counts are often called "hot." Low counts are "cold."

Recency: how long ago

Recency is the gap since a number last appeared. If 12 showed up yesterday, its gap is 1. If it hasn't appeared for 30 draws, its gap is 30.

Why both measures bounce around

In a random game, counts are never perfectly even. Some numbers will run ahead, others will lag. Over a very long time, they tend to level out, but in any given stretch you'll see big differences. That's normal randomness, not a hidden pattern.

What they can tell you

  • What actually happened in your game's past draws
  • A fun, organized way to choose numbers
  • A way to check that results look random over time

What they can't tell you

In Apollo AI: the pattern model combines both measures into four groups, and the chart suite draws them as a ring and bars so you can see them in seconds.
